Eastern Shore Company to Expand Operations
Fire Equipment Manufacturer Will Add New Line to its Cambridge, MD Site

BALTIMORE, MD (January 7, 2003) -- POK of North America Inc., an international fire equipment manufacturer headquartered in Cambridge, MD, has begun work on a 20,000 square foot expansion of its world headquarters. The new building, to be built adjacent to its existing facility, will house a new product line that will provide jobs for an additional 35 employees. As a part of the expansion, POK will receive a $50,000 training assistance grant from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED).

“We have worked hard to create economic opportunity in every region of our State and POK’s expansion is further evidence that we’re succeeding on the Eastern Shore,” said DBED Secretary David S. Iannucci. “POK is an industry leader and a company we are proud to see expand here in Maryland.”

“We are extremely pleased to be part of this expansion in Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland,” said Jean-Marc Tasse, President of POK. “Everyone from the County and the State of Maryland has been very helpful throughout the process of POK’s relocation and expansion.’’

In support of the new line, DBED will provide a $50,000 training assistance grant through its Maryland Industrial Training Program (MITP). The Maryland Industrial Training Program (MITP) provides incentive grants to clients of DBED for the development, retention, and training of employees in companies locating or expanding their workforce in Maryland. Funds are generally utilized to reimburse program grantees for the costs associated with new workforce development and training activities necessary in start-up and expansion of operations.

As part of the agreement, POK has pledged to triple their total employment at the Cambridge site by the end of 2004.

POK manufactures state of the art firefighting products and equipment for the fire, marine, industrial, and hazardous environment industries. In addition to its new headquarters in Cambridge, POK maintains facilities in France, Germany, Brazil and Japan. Commencing operations in 1999 in Cambridge, POK reported a 35 percent increase in sales for 2001. POK is a Maryland With Pride company.
